Established in 2013, the GW4 Alliance brings together four of the most research-intensive and innovative universities in the UK; the universities of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter. It addresses key national and global challenges, such as cancer, on a scale that would not be possible for any single institution. GW4CANCER is a cross-disciplinary GW4 network that is building on the substantial cancer research portfolio of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter. To see what individual researchers within GW4Cancer do, visit Our work.

Our combined research capacity addresses:

  • Environmental and lifestyle causes of cancer
  • The genetics, biochemistry and cell biological processes that underlie malignancy
  • Prevention and pharmaceutical intervention in cancer
  • Early diagnostic and prognostic management of cancer

Our mission:

  • Carry out collaborative research to find ground breaking interventions for diagnosing, treating and preventing cancer
  • ¬†Specifically addressing cancer associated health issues such as survivorship, heathy ageing, social deprivation and patient advocacy
  • Engage with clinical partners and patient groups locally to translate our cancer discoveries into treatment and management of cancer
  • Establish a non-clinical doctoral training programme in cancer complementing the work of GW4 Clinical Academic Training Community
